Is Kate Somerville cruelty free?

In order to ensure that a brand is completely cruelty free, doesn’t test on animals at any point during the production of their products, I reach out to them via email. Here is my email exchange with Kate Somerville…

Good afternoon!

My name is Svetlana and I’m the founder of Ethical Bunny, a website that features cruelty free brands and advocates for animal rights. Kate Somerville has been listed on my website’s cruelty free brand list for quite some time now and, as I was updating my list, I noticed that you do not appear to have any cruelty free certifications. (http://www.ethicalbunny.com/brands/) Would you mind answering a few questions for me?

  1. Are any of your finished products or individual ingredients tested on animals?
  2. Do you have a Leaping Bunny, CCF or PETA certification?
  3. Are your products sold in retails locations in mainland China (except Hong Kong)?
  4. Do your suppliers or any third parties test on animals on your behalf?
  5. Additionally, are any or all of your products completely vegan?

Please get back to me at your earliest convenience. If I do not hear back within two weeks, your company will be removed from my cf list due to lack of certainty in your cruelty free status. Thank you so much for your time!

Here is their response:

Kate Somerville emails confirm they are cruelty free but not yet leaping bunny or peta certified. | Ethical Bunny's cruelty free and vegan skincare, makeup, haircare, hygiene, bath and body guide. Products from small, indie brands that use clean, green, sustainable, non toxic, organic, botanical and natural ingredients.

As a result, I have concluded that Kate Somerville is, in fact, cruelty free and it has been added to our database of cruelty free brands. Their products may also be featured in our shopping guides. If you have any further questions or would like to check out their products, visit their website.
