Is Dr. Hauschka cruelty free?

In order to ensure that a brand is completely cruelty free, doesn’t test on animals at any point during the production of their products, I reach out to them via email. Here is my email exchange with Dr. Hauschka…

Good morning,

I’m the founder of Ethical Bunny, a website that features a list of cruelty free brands and product recommendations. I am interested in listing Dr. Hauschka in my database, but to do so I need to ensure that you are in fact cruelty free. I just had a few questions if you wouldn’t mind.

1) Are any of your products or ingredients tested on animals?
2) Do you have a Leaping Bunny or PETA certification?
3) Does your company sell products in mainland China?
4) Do your suppliers or any third parties test on animals on your behalf?

Please get back to me at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time!

Here is their response:

Dr. Hauschka products are not tested on animals. | Ethical Bunny's guide to cruelty free and vegan skincare, makeup, haircare, bodycare, personal care, fragrance, beauty and household. Complete database list of natural, clean, green, non-toxic, organic options. Drugstore, luxury, high end, indie.

Based on this email, I have concluded that Dr. Hauschka is in fact cruelty free and it has been added to our database of cruelty free brands. Their products may also be featured in our shopping guides. If you have any further questions or would like to check out their products, visit their website.

*Note: While the brand Dr. Hauschka is cruelty free, it is owned by WALA Heilmittel GmbH – a parent company that also owns a line of pharmaceuticals. Those pharmaceutical products are tested on animals. It is up to each individual if they choose to support cruelty free brands owned by non cruelty free parent companies. In this case, the parent company tests on animals for medical purposes in order to manufacture drugs. It’s an entirely different field of study than cosmetics testing and an area in which I don’t have any expertise and therefore can’t recommend or not recommend that you use Dr. Hauschka products.
